Haiti vodou flags

Vodou flags are an art-form unique to Haiti. They are made with sequins and beads and they are hand-sewn onto fabric. These flags were used in religious ceremonies but they are now made for artistic purpose. The flags used in ceremonies were very colorful to invite the spirits to take part in the ceremony. They also represented the flag-maker’s tribute to the gods who inhabit the spirit world.

Currently, the flags are made mostly for artistic purposes and they show a wide range of stories and figures. Making a Vodou flag is a long and meticulous process that can take up to 6 weeks.

We'll be making our beaded flags in class!!
